Mum’s Story

This page isn't part of REVIVE. It's just somewhere I wanted to remember my mum.

Mum passed away on 30th September 2025 after battling bowel cancer and womb cancer. She was my mum, and losing her is one of the hardest things I've ever been through, or will go through.

My partner Sarah was with me through all of it. At the hospital, through the worst days, when everything felt like it was falling apart at once for both of us. We were both in an awful place at the same time and I honestly don't know how either of us got through it. I'm grateful every day that she was there.

The first song I wrote was Still With Me. I didn't plan it, it just came out of the grief, a way of putting into music what I couldn't find the words to say. Then on 25th August this year, on what would have been her birthday, I released It's Your Birthday. Written just for her, for that day.

These songs aren't releases in any commercial sense. I wrote them for her. This is just somewhere they live.

Still With Me

“You're still with me
in the morning sun,
in the quiet
when the day is done.”

Verse 1

Remember the way you'd look at me,
like everything would be alright
Even when your world was breaking quietly,
you were still my light
You carried pain I never knew, smiled so I wouldn't see
You gave me strength when you had none left.
You gave the best of you to me

Chorus

Every word you left behind still echoes deep inside my soul.
Love like yours is never gone.
It's a fire that time can't hold
You're still with me in the morning sun,
in the quiet when the day is done
In every tear I try to hide, I feel you here right by my side
Cancer took your breath away,
but it couldn't steal your love from me

Verse 2

You're still with me
You're still with me
I see your strength in who I've become,
in every step I'm learning to take
You taught me grace, you taught me courage,
you taught my heart how not to break

Verse 3

Hospitalized those endless nights,
you never let your fear show through
Even at your weakest moment, you were still protecting me.
Somehow you knew
If love alone could change the end,
you'd still be standing here today
But love lives on beyond goodbye,
beyond the words we couldn't say

Chorus

You're still with me in every breath.
Stronger than life, stronger than death
I want this world, but not alone.
Your love has made my heart a home
Though heaven called your name too soon,
and left this ache I can't undo
You're still with me

Bridge

You're still with me when I fall apart,
when the nights are long and break my heart
When I'm lost and can't go on,
your voice reminds me I am strong

I'll carry you my whole life through.
Every dream, every love, I know you're still with me

Outro

Forever with me
So rest now mum your fight is done.
Your love outshines the setting sun
Until the day I see your face,
I'll feel you here in every place

It’s Your Birthday

Full Lyrics

“I’d say happy birthday
Like I always used to do
But it’s different standing here
Knowing I can’t say it to you”

Verse 1

It’s your birthday today
And I’ve been thinking about you more
Not just the big things people say
But the little things we used to do before

Walking round the shops with you
Taking it slow, step by step
You’d lean on that trolley just to get through
And I’d stay right there, not saying much, just kept

Verse 2

Back at home, just day to day
Doing things that needed done
Never really thought about it then
Just knew you were the one

You’d say you were alright
Even when I knew you weren’t
And I’d do what I could for you
Just trying to give you comfort

Chorus

I’d say happy birthday
Like I always used to do
But it’s different standing here
Knowing I can’t say it to you

Still, I feel you with me
In the things I do and say
So I’ll say it anyway
Happy birthday

Instrumental

Verse 3

Sometimes I still picture you
Doing the things you used to do
Like biting at your nails again
Like I always noticed you

I used to tell you to stop
You’d just smile and carry on
Now I’d give anything just to see
Those small things that are gone

Chorus

I’d say happy birthday
Like I always did before
But now I’m standing here
And you’re not at the door

Still, I feel you with me
In the way I live each day
So I’ll say it anyway
Happy birthday

Bridge

I don’t need big words for this
I don’t need to explain
You were everything to me
And that will never change

Outro

I still go to those places
But it’s never quite the same

I’m still doing what I can
Just like I did then

Happy birthday, Mum
